What is homeopathy?
One of the best known complimentary therapies, homeopathy is used by hundreds of millions of people across the globe, making it the second most used type of medicine in the world. It is used to treat physical, mental, and emotional conditions, whether chronic or acute. Founded on two hundred years of clinical research and experience, homeopathy offers patients a gentle return to health without side effects.
At the core of homeopathy is the concept that “like cures like” – that a substance which causes a particular symptom in a healthy person can be used to relieve that same symptom in a person who is unwell. This is also sometimes used in conventional medicine, such as when exposure to allergens is used to desensitise patients with allergies. Unlike allopathic medicines however, homeopathic medications are ultra-diluted, meaning that they are non-toxic and free from side effects.
Homeopathy is focused on treating the individual rather than the disease, with each energized homeopathic remedy carefully chosen to match the particular state of the patient as a whole. A homeopath will carefully address the root causes of chronic or acute conditions by looking at the unique factors of the patient and their complaint. Homeopathic medicine stimulates the body’s vital force, helping it to rid itself of illness and promote balanced health. Because they are non-toxic and have no side effects, homeopathic remedies are safe for all ages.
Many patients also use homeopathic remedies in addition to conventional interventions. The high dilutions used in homeopathic remedies mean that they rarely interact with pharmaceutical medicines.
Well known proponents of homeopathy include Prince Charles, Paul McCartney, David Beckham, Gaby Roslin, Jude Law, Jennifer Aniston, and Helena Bonham-Carter. The Queen is the patron of the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (formerly the London Homeopathic Hospital).
the appointment – What to expect
Homeopathic practitioners are interested in knowing who the individual is on all levels. The practice of Homeopathy does not just separate physical or mental conditions in a patient. Homeopathy goes beyond the physical being, and examines all aspects of the human condition, including emotional, mental, even spiritual aspects that makes up the person. It is therefore very important that in the consultation as complete a picture as possible is given. All of the information gathered is vital to helping choose a remedy that is the best “match” for the patient.
